I love the holidays. I enjoy relaxing, opening and giving presents, taking extra time off work, etc… Being lazy, sleeping in…. Ahhh… For maybe 2 days. Then I feel like I’m going bonkers. We’ve had some rough weather here lately. Not just winds but snow and the conditions got very icy. Too icy to run or to drive to meet my team. Ridiculously gross. We have a 4 wheel drive truck and that’s the only vehicle that drove anywhere and only when necessary. By this morning (actually last night but I tried to ride it out) I couldn’t take it anymore. At 9 am I laced up my trail shoes, stuffed myself like a sausage into my new CW-X compression tights and took off for 6 miles. It was exhausting to run through days of fallen, melted, fallen, windblown, fallen snow – more difficult than trails. I elected to leave my heart rate monitor at home, but I can guarantee I was in zone 3-4 but my speed was barely a zone 2. I needed that cold, hard, icy run. There were many times my footprints were the first to break the pristine landscape. 32*, 6 mph winds, sunny and clear out. Heaven. Except for the cars on the main drag not slowing down or pulling over a little – even though I was on the sidewalk. Why yes, thank you for pelting me with dirty slush!! Well, you can’t have everything!!
