A client asked me what I did this week. “Ran 5 miles Sunday, 12 miles Tuesday, 4 miles Wednesday”. “WHY??!! Was someone chasing you? Why would you DO that?!” Obviously this person has no passion for running. No one was chasing me – I was doing the chasing!!! Ha Ha!!

I posted reasons why I run in an earlier post but geez, I could go on and on….  What motivates YOU to run??  I ask this question to everyone I run with.  Majority answers are food related which isn’t top on my list but I get it.  Or alcohol related and since I don’t drink that’s not on my list either.  I run for me.

  1. People always ask me why too. Or they say “you’re skinny, you don’t have to run”. But, I don’t do it for weight loss or even because it’s “good for you”. I do it because it’s good for ME, personally. It’s good for me mentally, for my self-esteem, for my confidence, for the competitor in me, for the loner in me. It’s hard to explain to someone that doesn’t have the passion. But, those of that that have it, we know, we don’t even ask, cause we know.

    1. It’s amazing to me how people don’t think it’s rude to make comments about how I’m in good shape or thin, etc… They’re obnoxious and demeaning. The last time a woman made a snide remark to me I looked at her and said, “It’s amazing that you can put me down about how I look but you would be offended if I said you need to lose 60 lbs. Talking down to someone is hurtful no matter how nicely you package it” Ugh. Yes, we get it. And rock on to those of us maintaining our bodies!!! Amen, sister!!
